This is the kind of wisdom and logic with which our generation needs to grapple.
We are literally a generation or less away from losing what makes America great; the very pillars upon which our great country was founded. I’m talking about personal responsibility and accountability to something greater than ourselves.
God help us. Come, Lord Jesus.
With all due respect to both your opinion, and the opinion of the columnist, a few points:
1) There’s a great comment from one of the readers with a quote from Socrotes- ‘The children now love luxury; they show disrespect for elders and
love chatter in place of exercise. Children are tyrants, not servants
of the households. They no longer rise when their elders enter the
room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up
dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize over their
teachers.’ The point is, every generation thinks the generations that are up and coming are a bunch of disrespectful, mindless drones.
2) I think we must also remember that in the early days of our nation, folks praised the Lord and then went out and whipped slaves. Women were treated as less than equals. The return to our roots and generations before us isn’t a goal that I think we should aspire too.
One question – in your last statement about greater accountability to something bigger – do you mean our nation or to God?
