Everyone (even Lutherans like me) sign up for this when they come to know Jesus as Savior & Lord. Thanks for sharing Bro Tony!
It looks like a good thing. I might prefer the confessional section be removed and a couple of the others re-ordered, but it won’t upset me too much either way. I have recently had a little dispute about the importance of confessionals versus the sufficiency of Scripture. I think that emphasizing the absolute authority of the Bible is more important than emphasizing the adherence to a man made confessional, however well thought out it may be.
Being a Southern Baptist Pastor, have you and/or your church “accepted the BFM 2000? Specifically, what do you think about making baptism a prerequisite for Communion?
Hey Dave-
I agree with most of the Baptist Faith & Message (2000).
I believe that the Lord’s supper is for members of The Kingdom. And I don’t believe that baptism is required for entrance into The Kingdom. So, I don’t believe that baptism is required for participation in the Lord’s supper.
However, in the admonition to “examine self” encouraged by Paul in 1 Corinthians, I would really want to know why someone who claimed to be a child of God would not be baptized as soon as possible after conversion.
Completely agree with you. My personal experience with this issue had nothing to do with the heart of the believer. It really was just a matter of timing. Communion was scheduled. A child became a Christian. There was simply no time, or logistical possibility, for a baptism before Communion. Thank you for the reply.
