The Republican Primary race: What’s a true conservative to do?

Before the Iowa caucus, there was no doubt in my mind that I would vote for Mike Huckabee in the Illinois presidential primary (Feb. 5th…Super Tuesday).

The dilemma: Huckabee hasn’t won since Iowa and it seems that, as the media so subtly puts it, “he hasn’t gotten any traction”.

If the Republican prelim is only a two-horse race between McCain and Romney, Romney is clearly the more conservative of the two.

So what is a true conservative to do? On the one hand, Mike Huckabee is the only real conservative still running….but does he have a realistic shot? On the other hand, does one vote for the more conservative of the two legitimate contenders?

On top of all of this, my oldest child will be voting for the first time this year. We talk politics some. While I value our discussions on these matters, I fully expect his vote to be his own. It’s difficult for me to give advice and add anything meaningful to these dialogues when I’m so torn myself.

Any advice? I’d pay a nickel for your two-cents.

When prez hopefuls bow out, what happens to their delegates?

Rudy quits the race.  He throws his support behind McCain.  Do Rudy’s delegates automatically go to McCain as well?  How does that work?

Same with Edwards.  News reports indicate that he will no longer run for president as of today (Jan. 30th).  Does he decide where his delegates go?

Somebody?  Anybody?  Answers….we need answers!

Johan goes to the Big Apple

Ending weeks of speculation, the Santana sweepstakes winner was announced yesterday.  Johan Santana is now a New York Met.

The players from his old team (Twins) and his new team gave the perfunctory quotes:  “He makes everyone better”, “We’ll not only miss his numbers, we’ll miss his presence in the clubhouse”….you get the idea.

My question is this….is he going to make a seamless jump from the AL to the NL?  I know that the strike zones are supposed to be the same now.  But come on!  If you believe that, I have some ocean-front property here in Illinois I’d like to sell you.

NFL Conference Champs Champ….SB XLII picks

Driller and Filler was the only one to pick both winners in the conference championship games.  Way to go, Doc!  A very valuable prize is on its way (the word “very” being relative).

Now that unnecessary hype week 1 is over, let’s get down to business with unnecessary hype week 2….who will win the big game?

The Vegas odds have NE as a 12 to 12 1/2 point fave.  Pick ‘em!

Exciting days at Anna First Baptist Church!

The Lord is certainly blessing us at Anna First Baptist Church.

On January 27th we celebrated both ordinances! We worshiped through our participation in the Lord’s supper in both our morning worship services. And we baptized a young man in our contemporary service.

Our children’s department is using their newly renovated space for their morning worship / Sunday school for the very first time today!

We are approaching 300 in average morning worship attendance (285 today)!

At a recent youth lock-in event, we had 59 teens in attendance.

We have had folks join our church for 5 or 6 consecutive Sundays (another came forward for baptism this morning)!

We are now recording our worship services digitally and making the audio available on CD (I know, I know….welcome to the 1990’s).

God is so good. Thanks be to God! Rejoice with us!

Why Americans (Christian or otherwise) should oppose abortion

This video is disturbing. It should be. This is the part of the abortion “industry” that advocates of abortion don’t want you to see.

A matter of choice?  Until the feelings of the expectant father and the unborn child are going to be consitutionally protected and/or considered, isn’t it ludicrous to call the pro-death forces ”pro-choice”? 

A woman’s personal reproductive health decision?  What about when the unborn child is of a different gender or blood type?  Then whose body is it?

If you’ve been victimized by the abortion industry, please know that Jesus loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life. Come to him now.

Need for advice: Internet Explorer or Firefox?

We received an email alert from our web host that we could maximize our use of some of their new features by switching our browser from Internet Explorer to Firefox.

Can anyone (everyone) out there help me understand the basic differences?  What do you like / dislike about each?

Help…..I need somebody.
