NFL post-season….PICK ‘EM!

31 12 2007

Choose the winners of this weekend’s first round contests.  Also, choose the total points you believe will be scored in each game as a tie-breaker.

Redskins (6) at Seahawks (3), 4:30 Saturday

Jags (5) at Steelers (4), 8:00 Saturday

Giants (5) at Bucs (4), 1:00 Sunday

Titans (6) at Chargers (3), 4:30 Sunday

Prize to the winner.

Feelin’ lucky, punk?

I am the champion….my friend

31 12 2007

I’m in a fantasy football league with a great bunch of guys.  After years of futility, I finally broke through!

I didn’t have the flashiest of rosters.  But they were effective, none the less.

Saved my highest point total ever for the super bowl.  Link here.

Are you a fantasy baller?  How did your team(s) do?

C H I E F S W I N ! ! ! ! ! Well, sort of

31 12 2007

Chiefs fans haven’t been able to say “Chiefs win” since week 7 of the NFL’s 2007 campaign.  But in the spirit of trying to find a silver lining, they did win the 5th pick in the 2008 draft.

Tony Gonzalez also broke the all-time record for receptions by a TE.  I suppose that’s something.

I said at the beginning of the season, the Chiefs need to stick with Croyle at QB and just use 2007 as a building year.  Now we’re at the end of a 4-12 season and are no closer to knowing who the starting quarterback will be in ‘08.  Sad.

How did your favorite pro team do this year?  If poorly, what do you see as the “fix” necessary to compete in 2008?

Got resolutions?

31 12 2007

Have you made any new year’s resolutions?  I have….

-I’m going to attempt to lose 40 lbs.  I weighed 247 after a Christmas party dinner a couple weeks back.  Talk about a wake up call.  The exercise aspect of this endeavor will make for more quality time with my bride (who still looks like she did the day she graduated high school).

-I want to spend less of my “free time” on the computer / internet.  The research and sermon development capabilities of the computer are too valuable to set aside.  But when I’m not doing work, I need to put the old ‘puter down.

-I want to read a book each week.  I read gobs.  Just not concentrated reading on one topic.

Have you made any decisions on self-improvement?  Share them here.  Might make for some needed accountability for you.

Scene from a duck hunt

If there’s a more beautiful place to be in the outdoors than southern Illinois in December, I’ve yet to find it.

Take your kids hunting…

Ever heard the expression, “If you take your kids hunting, you’ll never have to hunt for your kids”?  I like it.

The young man on the left is Sean.  He’s an avid waterfowl hunter and a great caller, too.  The young man on the right is Alex, my younger son.

We didn’t harvest any ducks on this day.  But we made a lot of memories.

WARNING: Curt Schilling trying to form sentences again

20 12 2007

Curt Schilling says that Roger Clemens needs to return his Cy Young awards if he cheated.

Does he not realize how self-serving his remarks are?

2 questions….

1.  Who cares what Curt Schilling thinks?

2.  Why does the media print what Curt Schilling thinks?

Christmas gifts for pets?

19 12 2007

Do you buy Christmas gifts for your pets?  If so, how do you decide what to get them?

(And if anyone says, “Just ask them what they want”, I may be through blogging)

We recently bought Calvin a couple of new collars from The Cozy Critter.  He got a blue snowflake collar and a University of Illinois collar.

How church decisions are made

19 12 2007

A topic for discussion….should churches use the democratic process (one member, one vote) to make decisions?

I think not.  I prefer a plurality of elders (not deacons, but elders) making church decisions.

What do you think?
