Does Eli Manning start in the NFL if his last name isn’t “Manning”? I say no.

What is this year’s “gotta-have-it” gift?
27 11 2007When my kids were younger, I was more in tune with the buzz on hot Christmas gifts. Now, not so much.
What is/are this year’s gotta-have-it gift(s)?
My children have gotten much easier to buy for…much more expensive….but much easier. I would tell you what we’re getting for them, but they actually read my blog sometimes!

NL MVP voting is too arbitrary
20 11 2007I just don’t get it. How did Jimmy Rollins beat out Matt Holliday for the National League Most Valuable Player award? It’s certainly not in the numbers. Both teams made it to the playoffs. Yeah, I know. Whether or not a player’s team makes it to the playoffs isn’t supposed to matter. But we all know that it does matter.
I’m scratching my head over this one. Somebody put a reply on this post that makes me a Rollins-believer. ‘Cause I just ain’t gettin’ it.

Hannah Montana’s fans: “You broke our achy, breaky hearts!”
19 11 2007
Story here. If you joined the Hannah Montana fan club, you were supposed to get priority access to concert tickets when she came to your metropolis. As it turns out, not so much. Now the fans are filing a class-action lawsuit against the fan club.
I didn’t know that 12-year-old girls could file lawsuits. I wonder if their over-indulgent parents have anything to do with this?
Hey folks….your local evangelical church’s youth group is closer than a Hannah Montana concert, is free, and is better for your kids anyway. Take them there!

Don’t rush the shadows
19 11 2007I was hunting with my sons and my father-in-law this past weekend. I chose a stand for Saturday evening’s hunt that faced directly west. The sky was clear. The sun was in my eyes. There was a treeline of tall hardwoods about 160 yards in front of me. By two o’clock, you could already see the shadows begin to creep onto the 20-acre food plot over which I was hunting. As I squinted to try to scan the field, I wished (almost out loud) that the shade of that hardwood treeline would make it to my stand……and soon!
But then I had one of those teachable moments. I didn’t hear an audible Voice, but I heard Him just the same. He said, “The sooner the shadows arrive, the closer the day is to done.” I was guilty of something that I ardently preach against…..wishing one’s life away. I tell children not to do it. I warn teens against it. And now I was guilty of doing it. It would be another hour or so before the shadows got to me. And if I set my heart firmly on an hour FROM now, I will likely miss out on all that the hour before me holds.
Lord, thanks for teaching me the lesson of rushing the shadows. I want to learn all that You have for me presently, in this hour, one precious moment at a time.

Sign on sanctuary door: “No re-entry if you leave”
15 11 2007I was at a worship service at Fellowship Church in Dallas a while back. When the service was over, we went through the doors to leave. I noticed on the doors a sign that read something to this effect….”If you choose to get up during the worship service and leave the sanctuary, you will not be allowed to re-enter”.
I’ve got mixed feelings about this one…what do you think? It would definitely make folks be sure to use the bathroom and get a drink prior to entering the sanctuary. But what about people that have very legitimate reasons for having to get up and go out?
