We take our dog out several times each day. That little chore has been a lot more interesting lately due to the rain we’ve been getting. But, hey, Calvin (our way-cool Schnoodle breed) still has to “do his thing”.
I went home during the noon hour, put him on his leash, grabbed my umbrella, and out the door we went. It’s pretty obvious that the rain isn’t his favorite thing. He gets tentative and shakes as the rain hits him and slides down through his fur and onto his skin. I walk a little closer to him with the umbrella over head and he notices that something is different….the rain has stopped. Now you and I both know that the rain didn’t stop. But he doesn’t know the difference. When he walks away from his master, he gets wet. When his master is near, it’s as if the rain stops.
I had no sooner watched this scene play out when the lesson struck me. The “rain” never stops, spiritually speaking. Jesus said, “In this world you WILL have trouble”. Translation: the “rain” never stops. So what can we do about it? In as much as it depends on us, we need to stay close to The Master. He protects, provides, nourishes, defends, educates, and prays for us. We need that. He encourages us to “abide”. That means we need to stay close to Him. How I’ve learned to love and cling to that word…abide.
In this world, ”the rain” never stops. The closer we stay to The Master, the “dry-er” we will be. Even a dog knows that!
