A Little Blogging Catch-up — Sports version

28 11 2006

Please comment on any or all of the following….

*Chris Carpenter was robbed of the Cy Young Award

*Albert Pujols was robbed of the Most Valuable Player Award

*The Cardinals have been way too passive to this point in the off-season when their opening-day roster will be nearly unrecognizable

*My beloved Chiefs look like contenders in the NFL (BTW, while they are barely in the AFC wild card picture, they would be the #2 team in the NFC if the playoffs began today)

*The Sporting News “reported” last week that more people watch / appreciate the NCAA version of basketball than the NBA (another insertion for the big book of D U H H H!)

*Why hasn’t soccer really taken hold in America?  As one who has participated in it on more than one level (player, coach, parent), it really is sports in its purest form:  minimal rules, a clear objective, you can only use your feet or your head.  I don’t understand our aversion to it

*While we’ve only bagged two so far this season, deer hunting has been wonderful in beautiful southern Illinois.  Weather couldn’t be better.

 Holla if ya hear meeeeee!

Dear Ms. O’Donnell,

Would you kindly practice the tolerance that you preach?

Change to “what”, exactly?

10 11 2006

The talking heads have informed us in the last several days that the results of our most recent national elections are an indication that Americans are ready for a change?  Okay.  I’ll bite.  A change to what?  I never once heard a Democratic candidate talk about what he or she would do if elected.  “The war is bad” they said.  Thanks, genius…..war is bad.  I hope you didn’t have to study too hard for that sound-bite.  So now the Dems have control of the house and the senate.  Nancy Pelosi is two heart-beats away from the White House.  Believe me when I say that I’m all for whatever is going to be in the best interests of our country.  But I’d love to hear from you all as to how exactly the shift of power in congress is going to accomplish that.  And to my beloved blue-staters, you better make it good.  There’s a much bigger election coming up in ‘08.  Sound off.

Be a Man, Merriman

2 11 2006

San Diego Charger’s standout Shawne Merriman has now assumed the victim role. Unfortunate. Is it just me, or do stories like this fuel the debate of how stupid some professional athletes seem to be?

The Democratic thought process

1 11 2006

Please consider the following comments from Senator John Kerry and then help me understand them.

“I’m sick and tired of a bunch of despicable Republicans who will not debate real policy, who won’t take responsibility for their own mistakes…”

“you study hard, you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. And if you don’t, you get stuck in Iraq.”

“I apologize to no one.”

I also submit this jewel from a Democratic spin-doctor in Georgia.

John Kerry showed our party how to fight back with the truth,” Max Cleland (Dem – GA) said.

Uh….yeah.

Philosophical Sports Question

1 11 2006

If an NBA season begins and no knowledgable sports fan genuinely cares about it, does it actually deserve to be a headline? Discuss.

How many days ’til spring training?
